Statement

I have always had a deep connection to the natural world around me and enjoy taking part in translating natures’ magnificence to canvas.  Landscapes have always been my passion, where shapes, textures and lighting always offer an endless source of subjects and challenges.  Using a simple design structure and brighter than life colors, I blend traditional realism with a contemporary impressionistic feeling, capturing the essence of my inspiration.  Having studied the Hudson River Valley Artists style, I hold their teachings in high regard for their valuable studies in plein air along with their classical academic approach to painting.

Elaine has a Studio in Amherst, NH where she lives as a full-time professional artist.  She is a national-award winning artist and instructor.  She is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association and Oil Painters of America.

Farmer has been a disciplined artist and instructor for over thirty-five years.  This collective experience gave her the insight to write and illustrate a book she published in the title of Harmonious Color Schemes; a no-nonsense approach using the Color Wheel. This simplified approach serves as the foundation of her teachings especially the mixing of paint pigment.

Farmer offers the student technical guidance and gentle critiques, so the student gains the confidence to become artistically creative, employing their own style and using their medium of choice.  Being passionate about creating and teaching art, she believes that sharing her own artistic knowledge and skills accumulated over her lifetime enriches the world around her.
