Description
Discover the bold, graphic beauty of linocut printmaking in this two-part workshop designed for beginners and experienced artists alike. You’ll learn the complete relief-printing process—from designing and carving your block to inking, printing, and adding expressive finishing touches.
Working with rich, oil-based inks, students will create crisp, high-contrast prints and experiment with a variety of printing techniques. During the second session, you’ll explore how to enhance your print imagery with watercolor washes, layered color, and subtle hand-painted details to bring depth, personality, and mood to each piece.
In this class, students will:
- – Learn safe and effective carving techniques for linoleum or rubber printmaking blocks
- – Explore mark-making, pattern, and composition in relief printing
- – Roll, ink, and print using oil-based inks for vivid and lasting results
- – Add watercolor embellishments to elevate and personalize each print
- – Leave with a small edition of prints and the skills to continue printing at home
Students are encouraged to bring their own linocut tools, paper, and visual references, if available, to the first session (or opt to pay the supply fee of $15). All levels welcome—no prior printmaking experience needed.
Students will also have the option of coming to the second session and simply bringing a print they already have and colorizing it or just attend the first and make a print.
