“Epic Bull Elk Battle” by Howard Muscott

While not indigenous to New England, a number of farms with Roosevelt elk exist. I was fortunate to  see this battle of two male bulls in rut season. It always helps to have the bull battle at the perfect angle with a nice composition and good light.  Most elk battles do not last long and are mostly a quick show of strength and dominance.  Some, like this one, are just young males practicing for a future encounter.
