WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this workshop, we’ll explore the ancient Javanese art of batik. In this fun and fascinating art form, wax is painted on or otherwise applied to the fabric. The wax acts as a resist against the later dyes, creating spaces in the original color. The process is repeated with the wax holding the color of the first color when it goes into the next dye bath and so on. When finished, the wax is removed from the fabric. At this time, the design is revealed, always a magical moment! the wax leaves a crackle effect giving the batik its distinctive look.
