Classes

CLASSES AND REGISTRATION

To register for any class or workshop, call Creative Ventures Gallery at 603-672-2500. We accept Visa or Mastercard by phone. To pay by check, make your check out to Creative Ventures Gallery and mail it to 411 Nashua Street, Milford, NH 03055. Please note the class name, your mailing address, phone and email in your correspondence. As always a personal visit would accomplish everything.

Refund Policy:

Students are expected to pay for classes they attend either in advance or at time of class for walk-ins. Classes carry a 15% fee for cancellation with no refunds after 7 days prior to the first day of class. No refunds for no-shows. If a class is cancelled by the instructor, the payment will either be refunded or applied toward another class.  Neither refunds nor credits will be granted for sessions missed because of illness or events beyond our control. However, if a class is cancelled due to weather, it will be made up at the beginning of the next month. Teachers who teach multiple classes each week, may allow a student to makeup a missed class at a different day at the discretion of the instructor.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for anyone interested in learning how to apply color using pastel as a dry painting medium or someone who just wants to broaden their knowledge of pastels. We will go over how to set yourself up for the best success in the medium. We will explore how to simplify the complexities of landscapes and at the same time learn how to create form. Topics will include – pastel application, composition, value, atmospheric perspective, color and more. This class can be ongoing with this instructor and can be joined at any time. Having prior drawing skills is an important place to start. Material list will be provided by the instructor.

We will explore color, perspective and most importantly how to get your vision onto watercolor paper. Our classes will be small to insure hands on time.  All students will be working on different paintings that will also broaden your experience. This class can be ongoing with this instructor and can be joined at any time. Some supplies will be available. Supply list will be provided by instructor. Beginners to intermediate levels.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A basic oil painting class for beginners.  the class will introduce students to the fundamental elements of oil painting techniques. Students will work from observation. Students will focus on learning color mixing, value, composition, and brush work to develop solid painting skills. This is a solvent free class. Prerequisite: some basic drawing experience.

Materials: Windsor newton student oil paints – titanium white, yellow ochre, burnt umber, cadmium yellow medium, phthalo green, ivory black, ultramarine blue, cadmium red light, perylene red, M.Graham walnut oil, canola oil for cleaning  brushes, paper palette, palette knife, brushes (1/4″, 1/2″, 1″ flat), canvas boards 8×10, 9×12, small jars, rags and paper towels.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Can’t draw a straight line? Come to my class and learn how to express your individuality. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Did you stop expressing yourself through drawings back in grade school? Do you lack the confidence to embark in a drawing project? This course is for you! In this class, students will learn and practice the drawing process. Fun and confidence is the emphasis as you learn to draw and build essential skills. We will be working from still life and photographs. The fundamentals of drawing will be the focus as we work on perspective, shading, blending, design and composition. COURSE DESCRIPTION: We’ll use a variety of drawing media in this class to create artwork in all kinds of subjects including nature, animals, people, and still life!  Using the basic elements of composition, shading, and blending, we’ll work with different subjects and different drawing media including pencil, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, and pen & ink.  We’ll explore different styles of drawing, too, while working from life, photographs, and imagination!

All levels are welcome and encouraged! Some supplies will be available.  Suggested supplies include a drawing pad at least 9×12 or larger, a few drawing pencils, and an eraser.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

The workshop will examine great works of art to understand the use of composition over a wide range of artistic periods and styles. Students will gain valuable information that can be directly applied to their own work to improve compositional methods and advance their own skill levels. As much as possible the class will incorporate work that is on display locally so students can view the work in person.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Relax, refresh, renew and get inspired. Let me introduce you to the benefits of Zentangle and discover the qualities of this meditative art form. Anything is possible one stroke at a time. We will start the day learning the basics and benefits of Zentangle, then apply what you’ve learned to adding beautiful patterns on a pumpkin or gourd that you will be proud of. Even if you feel challenged to draw a stick figure, you can learn Zentangle and create beautiful art. Join me and try something new!

♦♦♦ Clothed Figure Drawing Workshop

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Learn the basics of figure drawing or brush up on your current figure-drawing skills!  This class will present a clothed model taking quick poses, short poses, and longer poses all designed for the student to practice gesture, movement, and proportion on the clothed human figure.  Class is suitable for older teens as well as adults who have prior basic drawing experience.

Pre-registration required with $10 deposit (in case of-no-show, we’ll still have to pay the model).  Must register by Wednesday, 9/27 with $10 deposit.  Class needs at least 3 students to run.  Otherwise class will be cancelled on Thursday 9/28 and a refund of the $10 given.

♦♦♦ Monet: Pathways to Impressionism Workshop

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This workshop will examine the career of Claude Monet and the development of his impressionist style as represented in the current exhibit at the Currier Art Museum.  The four works in the exhibit represent significant milestones in the development of Monet’s work.  Additional work by Monet will be analyzed as well other artists to give his work context within the larger artistic community.  Artists at all stages of their career will benefit from an intimate examination of the artists use of color, composition, and style.  After the workshop students can visit the museum together or independently to see the original pieces and build greater appreciation for the artist’s work.
