Classes

CLASSES AND REGISTRATION

To register for any class or workshop, call Creative Ventures Gallery at 603-672-2500. Workshop students must prepay. We can accept cards by phone. To pay by check, make your check out to Creative Ventures Gallery and mail it to 411 Nashua Street, Milford, NH 03055. Please note the class name, your mailing address, phone and email in your correspondence. As always a personal visit would accomplish everything.

Refund Policy:

Students are expected to pay for classes they attend either in advance or at time of class for walk-ins. No refunds for no-shows. If a class is cancelled by the instructor, the payment will either be refunded or applied toward another class.  Neither refunds nor credits will be granted for sessions missed because of illness or events beyond our control. However, if a class is cancelled due to weather, it will be made up at the beginning of the next month. Teachers who teach multiple classes each week, may allow a student to makeup a missed class at a different day at the discretion of the instructor.

Additional Policy:

The Creative Ventures classroom is open anytime classes are not scheduled for artists to come in with their supplies to work.  Just check with us before you come. There will be a nominal fee off $5 per visit.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for anyone interested in learning how to apply color using pastel as a dry painting medium or someone who just wants to broaden their knowledge of pastels. We will go over how to set yourself up for the best success in the medium. We will explore how to simplify the complexities of landscapes and at the same time learn how to create form. Topics will include – pastel application, composition, value, atmospheric perspective, color and more. This class can be ongoing with this instructor and can be joined at any time. Having prior drawing skills is an important place to start. Material list will be provided by the instructor.

We will explore color, perspective and most importantly how to get your vision onto watercolor paper. Our classes will be small to insure hands on time.  All students will be working on different paintings that will also broaden your experience. This class can be ongoing with this instructor and can be joined at any time. Some supplies will be available. Supply list will be provided by instructor. Beginners to intermediate levels.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A basic oil painting class for beginners. The class will introduce students to the fundamental elements of oil painting techniques. Students will work from observation. Students will focus on learning color mixing, value, composition, and brush work to develop solid painting skills. This is a solvent free class. Prerequisite: some basic drawing experience.

Materials: Windsor Newton student Oil Paints – titanium white, yellow ochre, burnt umber, cadmium yellow light, cadmium yellow medium, phthalo green, ivory black, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, cadmium red light, alizarin red permanent. Online Blick: #44 metal palette knife, Winsor Newton Winton hog bristle oil painting brushes: #2, 4, 6, 10 flat, #2 round, and #4,6 filbert. Medium: 8 ounce bottle of M.Graham walnut oil, Gamsol (solvent) by Gamblin. Optional – small bottle of safflower oil for cleaning  brushes. A paper palette pad 12×16, canvas boards or stretched  9 x 12 or 11 x 14, 2 small jars ,cotton rags, Viva paper towels, ruler, pencil, canvas paper, drawing compass, and small sketchpad.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Can’t draw a straight line? Come to my class and learn how to express your individuality. You will compete a painting based on your reference photo, no matter what the style.  All levels welcome.  You might want to design a painting that can be printed as a holiday card. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Did you stop expressing yourself through drawings back in grade school? Do you lack the confidence to embark in a drawing project? This course is for you! In this class, students will learn and practice the drawing process. Fun and confidence is the emphasis as you learn to draw and build essential skills. We will be working from still life and photographs. The fundamentals of drawing will be the focus as we work on perspective, shading, blending, design and composition. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this workshop, you’ll explore working intuitively, responding to what shows up before your eyes. No planning necessary! Explore how the flow of paint creates a mesmerizing effect.  The outcome is a unique work of art! This workshop is designed for both the artist who practices realism and wants to infuse mindfulness into their work, and those who claim they are not creative-but will find out otherwise!No experience necessary. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn how to draw or fine tune your existing drawing skills! In this class, we will focus on basic techniques and concepts used to develop good drawing skills.  Working from still life and photographs in all kinds of subjects, we’ll explore the use of light, shadow, blending and contrast that will bring your artwork to life.  Lessons in composition and perspective will also be incorporated into our weekly class.  Think you can draw?  Drawing is a learned skill and this class will teach you how! This class is suitable for both beginners AND intermediate levels. Emphasis will be on personal mark-making moving towards authentic self-expression. Please bring 11×14 canvases to class.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this workshop, we’ll explore the ancient Javanese art of batik. In this fun and fascinating art form, wax is painted on or otherwise applied to the fabric. The wax acts as a resist against the later dyes, creating spaces in the original color. The process is repeated with the wax holding the color of the first color when it goes into the next dye bath and so on. When finished, the wax is removed from the fabric. At this time, the design is revealed, always a magical moment! the wax leaves a crackle effect giving the batik its distinctive look.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: We’ll use a variety of drawing media in this class to create artwork in all kinds of subjects including nature, animals, people, and still life!  Using the basic elements of composition, shading, and blending, we’ll work with different subjects and different drawing media including pencil, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, and pen & ink.  We’ll explore different styles of drawing, too, while working from life, photographs, and imagination!

All levels are welcome and encouraged! Some supplies will be available.  Suggested supplies include a drawing pad at least 9×12 or larger, a few drawing pencils, and an eraser.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This is a great Friends/Moms Day Out activity since no experience is necessary. You will be applying the ink directly to the surfaces and creating from there. You will leave with 2 finished pieces to remind you of your special time together. All materials are included.  Come learn in a small class environment. There will be a 1/2 hour lunch break so bring lunch and drinks.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This is designed for the beginner watercolorist. We will spend the morning learning color theory and creating color charts and learning about perspective. The afternoon will be painting with your new knowledge. We need a minumum of three students with a maximum of 5 so it will be small class learning environment. You will leave with a completed painting. Get ready for some directed learning! All materials and paper will be supplied.  Bring a lunch and drinks. The February workshop could be a continuation or the first if you missed the January workshop.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Sea glass, Seashells and Stones will be twisted and tamed with the basic wire wrapping techniques learned in this workshop. Enjoy this portable activity while your toes are in the sand this summer. With a little practice and patience, you will be a wire ‘whisperer’ before you know it! Glass pieces, shells, and rocks will be available, however, feel free to bring in something special if you’d like too! No experience necessary.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Relax, refresh, renew and get inspired. Let me introduce you to the benefits of Zentangle and discover the qualities of this meditative art form. Anything is possible one stroke at a time. We will start the day learning the basics and benefits of Zentangle, then apply what you’ve learned to adding beautiful patterns on a pumpkin or gourd that you will be proud of. Even if you feel challenged to draw a stick figure, you can learn Zentangle and create beautiful art. Join me and try something new!
